About Nico & Bear
Nico & Bear is a one-woman jewellery studio based outside Gothenburg, Sweden. I design and make everything myself — in sterling silver, brass, and natural stone — from a small studio in the Swedish countryside.
I spent nearly twenty years as a corporate lawyer in the City of London. For much of that time, I was thinking about moving into a creative space and making things with my hands.
A few years ago, I swapped London for rural Sweden — a move I made partly on instinct, partly on a feeling about a house I'd never seen. It was the best decision I've ever made. I found a community of artists, a studio, and finally the time and space to become a maker.
I taught myself silversmithing from the ground up — books, tutorials, practice, and a lot of mistakes along the way. I'm currently completing a formal diploma in fine jewellery design to deepen my craft further. Every piece is designed, cut, formed, textured, soldered and finished by me.
My work is shaped by the landscapes around me — the texture of stone, the movement of water, the forms found in natural things. I work primarily in sterling silver and brass, sometimes with natural stones chosen individually for their character. Pieces are made in small batches or as one-of-a-kind works, so no two are exactly alike.
The Making
Each piece begins as a sketch or an idea before being cut from metal sheet and worked entirely by hand. Depending on the piece, the process might involve sawing, filing, forming over a sandbag, soldering, texturing and finishing. Some pieces take hours. Some take days.
I let the design evolve during making rather than fixing everything in advance. The result is jewellery that feels organic, tactile, and slightly alive.
Materials
I work primarily in sterling silver, with some pieces in brass. Natural stones are chosen individually — often for a specific pattern or tone that suggests the form of a piece. Many designs begin with the stone rather than the other way around.
One-of-a-Kind Pieces
Some pieces are made as unique works around natural stones whose patterns can't be replicated. These are part of an ongoing conversation between material and maker — each one unrepeatable.
Compliance
As a registered partner of Näringslivets Producentansvar (NPA) and a licensed Green Dot user, all packaging meets Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations and contributes to collection and recycling systems.
